Mount Bromo – Lunar-like Sea of Sand
Rising from the vast Tengger caldera, Bromo is an active cone sitting inside a 10-km-wide “sea of sand” that looks straight out of a science-fiction film. Every sunrise the horizon glows purple and orange behind the sharp silhouette of Bromo and its neighbour Batok, while the distant Semeru volcano spits ash in the background. Visitors usually ride a 4×4 across the soft grey dunes, then climb 253 steps to the crater rim where the smell of sulphur and the echo of rumbling earth remind you that this volcano is very much alive.

Tumpak Sewu Waterfall – East Java’s Niagara
Nicknamed “the Niagara Falls of Indonesia”, Tumpak Sewu is not one single drop but a 120-metre-tall, semi-circular curtain of hundreds of rivulets that pour over a horseshoe cliff of moss-covered lava rock. From the safe, top viewpoint you see the falls framed by the perfect cone of Mount Semeru in the distance; from the lower, more adventurous viewpoint you stand behind the deluge itself, soaked by the spray and deafened by the roar. Because it lies far from Java’s tourist circuit, the only crowds you’ll meet are butterflies and the occasional macaque.

Ijen Crater – Blue Fire & Acid Lake
After a midnight hike up steep, root-tangled trails you reach the crater rim just before dawn. Below lies the world’s largest highly-acidic lake—an iridescent, turquoise cauldron 1 km wide that looks like liquid neon. In the darkness an electric-blue flame flickers on the lake’s shore, ignited by the spontaneous combustion of sulphurous gases that escape from vents at 600 °C. As the sun rises, the scene shifts from alien blue to blinding turquoise, while hardy sulphur miners carry 80-kg baskets of yellow rock up the same treacherous path you’re standing on. The beauty is surreal, the fumes are harsh, and the experience is unforgettable.

Day 1 – Surabaya → Mount Bromo
07:00 – 12:00

Pick-up at Surabaya airport / hotel / train station. Drive ±2 hrs to Cemoro Lawang village at the foot of Mount Bromo.

14:00 Check-in at a simple but clean guest-house (hot-water shower, heater, breakfast).

Afternoon free – you can walk around the village or take an optional visit to Madakaripura Waterfall (add IDR 100 k pp).

19:30 Early dinner (own cost) and rest; prepare for very early wake-up.

Day 2 – Bromo Sunrise → Tumpak Sewu Waterfall
03:00 4×4 Jeep picks you up for the 45-min ride to King-Kong Hill sunrise viewpoint.

05:00 Watch the famous Bromo sunrise over the caldera with Mount Semeru in the background.

06:00 Cross the “Sea of Sand”, climb 250 steps to the rim of Bromo Crater, feel the sulphur smoke.

08:00 Back to hotel, shower & breakfast.

09:30 Depart for Lumajang (≈3 hrs).

13:00 Arrive at Tumpak Sewu area. Local guide leads you down the bamboo stairs & river-canyon walk to the base of the “Mini-Niagara” – an amphitheatre of dozens of falls plunging 120 m. Optional extra 30 min walk to Goa Tetes waterfall.

16:00 Check-in at homestay near the waterfall. Free evening – dinner on your own (guide will recommend warung).

Day 3 – Tumpak Sewu → Ijen Blue-Fire → Bali
00:20 Check-out and drive ±2 hrs to Paltuding (Ijen base-camp).

02:30 Start 3 km night-trek (1.5 hrs) accompanied by local guide & gas-mask.

04:00 Reach crater rim; descend carefully to the sulphur vents to see the electric-blue flames (only visible in the dark).

05:30 Sunrise over the turquoise acid lake – one of the world’s most surreal views.

07:30 Trek back to parking, light breakfast box.

09:00 Drive to Ketapang harbour; ferry to Gilimanuk (Bali).

13:00 Meet Balinese driver; drop-off at your Ubud / Kuta / Sanur hotel. Tour ends.
